Considering Divorce?Stuck in divorce indecision?
If you’re considering divorce but aren’t sure it’s the right path, you’re in a tough spot.
There are many individuals, just like you, who spend months or even years ambivalent about their marriage. They’re not sure if they can ever be happy again- married or not.
Sure, things will be okay… for a while, then there’s another fight, another argument and you’re left feeling more hopeless than ever.
Or maybe there is no fight- you just don’t see the point in it anymore. After all, nothing ever really changes.
You feel stuck, hopeless. The only thing you know is that you’re not happy and you wish something would change.
You’re not sure marriage therapy will help or maybe you’ve tried it before.
Marriage therapy only works for couples where both are invested and willing to work toward restoring the relationship. Right now, you may not know if you have the energy or willingness to try.
Discernment Counseling is designed for you. It’s a chance to slow down, take a breath, and look at your options for your marriage. Discernment counseling is a new way of helping couples where one of you is “leaning out”- that is, considering divorce or separation.
The goal of discernment counseling is not to help you fix the issues in your marriage but to help you determine if they can be fixed.
The goal is for you to gain clarity and confidence about a direction for your relationship based on a deeper understanding of what has happened as well as the possibilities for the future.
There are no good guys or bad guys (or hidden agenda).
My goal is to provide you with a safe space where you can talk openly and honestly about the issues in your marriage as well as what it would take for you to consider moving forward.
You will come in as a couple, but the most important work will be done with each of you individually.
Because you and your partner are likely at two different starting points, you need two different approaches. That’s not something you’ll get in normal marriage therapy.
I respect your reasons for divorce while trying to open up the possibility of restoring your marriage to health.
I’ll help you explore your contributions to the issues in your marriage which will be helpful even if this relationship ends.
How long does discernment counseling last?
Discernment counseling is brief- just one to five sessions.
The first session is two hours, and each subsequent session is one and a half hours.
The only commitment you make is to the first session with a decision each time whether to continue the process.
How much does discernment counseling cost?
The first session is $360, and each subsequent session is $270.
